Duties

Summary

Serves as an Aircraft Structural Engineer within the Engineering Branch of the Aircraft Operations Division, responsible for management of space and aeronautical flight systems, vehicles, and/or payloads, including design and operational requirements definition, hardware and/or software development, testing, verification, safety, integration, certification and operations.

Responsibilities

Serves as an Aircraft Structural Engineer within the Engineering Branch of the Aircraft Operations Division, responsible for management of space and aeronautical flight systems, vehicles, and/or payloads, including design and operational requirements definition, hardware and/or software development, testing, verification, safety, integration, certification and operations.

Specifically:

-Provides aircraft structural engineering oversight/analysis for ongoing projects, special projects, future projects, and in advance planning of new systems and capabilities of all applicable agency programs and areas of responsibility.

-Develops critical design projects and integrates unique systems, customer products, and project and/or program elements to satisfy aircraft design and operational requirements.

-Performs technical structural analyses of assigned systems and/or payload requirements.

-Responsible for providing technical and management support for aircraft flight systems in accordance with program or project-level requirements.

-Monitors the design, development, and production of flight systems and ensures the compatibility of all systems and subsystems.

    Qualifications

    Applicant must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade, which has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.

    Specialized experience is defined as professional working experience that included the following:

    -Experience in aircraft flight control systems.

    -Skill and experience in aircraft flight operations, flight planning, and aircraft limitations and constraints.

    -Knowledge of design, development, integration, test, evaluation, operation, and maintenance of flight vehicle and/or payload hardware, software, and associated systems.

    -Knowledge of flight systems in accordance with program or project-level requirements.

    -Experience in applying aircraft structural repair methods.

    Education

    Basic Education Requirement: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major study in engineering, physical science, mathematics, life sciences, computer science, or other field of science.

    Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

    Education completed outside of the United States must be deemed equivalent to that gained in conventional, accredited U.S. education programs to be acceptable for Federal employment.

    Most foreign education is not accredited by an accrediting body that is recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.
