SUMMARY:

The role of the Distribution Manager is to direct the company’s regional North American distribution operations to ensure that the company’s supply network is sustained and operating in an efficient and effective manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops strategies for the use of local, domestic and North American sourcing techniques to achieve best price, delivery and quality. Coordinates the negotiation of agreements with logistics to obtain these third-party service resources at the best price.
  • Maintains market intelligence related to logistics and maintains streamlined and well-understood business processes and systems within distribution.
  • Leads internal efforts in developing implementation of best practices throughout the distribution organization.
  • Develops transportation and warehousing strategies for new products, assists Logistics in the preparation of RFPs to evaluate potential suppliers and makes appropriate recommendations to senior management.
  • Establishes and measures KPIs to drive performance for on-time, in-full delivery performance, shipping costs for all forms of transit, warehouse inventory management, warehousing productivity and quality, and workforce planning requirements.
  • Ensures that all carriers comply with legal, quality and safety standards.
  • Develops and maintains third-party service provider relationships, including warehousing and related logistics services.
  • Investigates cause analysis issues for problem reconciliation and leads corrective action for complaints related to transportation, logistics handling and warehousing of finished products.
  • Ensures that compliance processes for the transportation of hazardous materials are thorough, well understood and properly implemented.
  • Develops fiscal budgets and ensures effective management within budgetary guidelines. Provides senior management with periodic reports as designated.
  • Directs staff to cohesively support strategic customer care service objectives, directs facility line-management to enhance staff and team skills and competencies, and establishes team performance objectives.
  • Defines and forecasts needed skills, tools and equipment to meet project objectives.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises Shipping Supervisors located at remote locations. Carries out supervisor responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, code of conduct and applicable laws.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years’ experience in Distribution and 5+ years’ supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with building products warehousing and shipments
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated skills associated with building carrier and 3PL relationships.
  • Strong financial acumen and budgeting experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to translate your skills to other employees through training and mentoring.
  • Hands-on experience with the development and deployment of departmental metrics, and experience monitoring the quality, quantity, cost and efficiency of North American logistics networks.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite.
  • SAP and JDE experience preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. He employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. Up to 25% travel. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
