Leidos is seeking a recent college graduate to fill a Propulsion (Prop) Officer flight controller position to support the Propulsion Systems Group in the Flight Dynamics Division within the Flight Operations Directorate at the Johnson Space Center.

This position involves understanding and providing operations oversight/support/assessment for spacecraft and launch vehicle propulsion systems of the commercial crew (commercial vehicles that delivers crew to the ISS), Orion, and Space Launch System vehicles.

The Propulsion Officer position requires systems analysis, anomaly identification and resolution, flight rule and procedure development, real-time monitoring, and flight control work, for a variety of spacecraft and launch vehicle propulsion systems.

The employee will be expected to achieve certification as a flight controller as part of the Mission Control Center (MCC) team responsible for the in-flight operations.

Although infrequent, shift work, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to support an irregular schedule will be required during missions and simulations. Additional duties require supporting meetings and concisely reporting results to management and team-members, writing system briefs and console procedures, developing MCC displays, console tools, cue cards, and making oral presentations.

The candidate will interface with the NASA customer on a daily basis as well as many other engineering organizations and vendors.


This is an entry-level position. Preferred position related experience 0-2 years.
Recent Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics or Engineering.
Knowledge of engineering principles with background or experience with propulsion and fluids curricula is highly desired.
Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, leadership, teamwork, technical, and administrative skills are mandatory.
Candidate must be able to apply technical knowledge and operations concepts to exercise effective decision making and initiative in a real-time and fast-paced operational environment.
Candidate should be a self-starter who excels in a dynamic environment that requires him/her to work effectively both alone or as part of a team.
Upon entry into a flight controller certification program, the candidate will be required to pass a the ability to pass an Air Traffic Controller physical examination.
Candidate must be able to support infrequent travel domestically or internationally.
This position requires successful completion of a government background check before commencement of employment and the ability to produce documentation proving US citizenship.
